Dental Implants Baton Rouge, LA dentist Dr. Barksdale wants to share the proper diet patients should enjoy after a dental implantation procedure.
Although there is about a 95-98% success rate for dental implants, if patients decide to eat or drink the wrong substance, this could ruin dental implant integration. Patients must take responsibility for investment of dental implants by eating soft foods and drinking a consistent amount of water. If patient’s implants fail, they will need them removed and will have to start the process all over again in a year or longer.
Dr. Barksdale wants everyone to have sustainable and positive oral health which is why he has dedicated his life’s work to providing these. We have compiled a list of foods and liquids that patients need to consume after the first six weeks following the procedure, as well as the foods and liquids that they must avoid at all costs.
Patients Can Eat:
Protein: Seafood, eggs, milk, yogurt, beans, cheese and quinoa.
Grains and starches: very soft breads, oatmeal, cereal, rice, mashed potatoes, and any type of noodles.
Fruits and Vegetables: Melons, berries, bananas, peaches or any other soft fruits, any steamed vegetables, no raw! Vegetable soup if a great idea for patients to the needed nutrients in a very soft and easy- to- eat form.
Drink:
Water, water and more water! Water is the only source of hydration that can aide the oral reparation the mouth needs at this time. The more we keep the mouth hydrated and moisturized, the less acidic content will be in it to harm the implants.
Patients CANNOT Eat:
Chewy foods: Gummy candies, dried fruit, salad, and especially cookies.
Cold/ hot foods: Any substance that is either too hot or too cold can cause pain in the dental implant areas, foods should be eaten at room temperature for patient to avoid pain.
Hard foods: tough meat, nuts, forms of snacks, seeds, chips, and especially hard candy. Any of these substances can scratch or poke against implants and ruin their placement.
Avoid drinking:
Alcohol, soda, energy drinks, or fruit juices. These types of drinks tend to dry out the mouth and create more harmful acid that can put the implants in a dangerous and unhealthy environment. It is best to avoid these drinks for at least six weeks after the procedure.
Patients should avoid drinking with straws to avoid physical damage to implants.
